Stacy Dittrich's Murder Mountain

"..he allegedly told her that he and his girlfriend ate some of the meat from the woman's body, which he referred to as 'bitchburger...'---The Roane County Reporter news article that inspired "Murder Mountain"

Plot: When a young woman disappears from home without her personal effects, Detective CeeCee Gallagher is determined to find her - only to discover she was not the first to vanish. CeeCee and FBI Agent Michael Hagerman follow the trail of chilling clues deep into the West Virginia Woods and a dark world of drugs, torture and cannibalism. With her family in grave danger, CeeCee will have to risk everything if she's to bring justice to ....Murder Mountain.

My Review and Thoughts:

Mystery and murder most foul, the Game is a Foot as Sherlock Holmes would say. Your introduced to your main character a criminal investigator CeeCee. Add a deep dark savage crime and hints of isolation and most of all depravity and it brings this gem of suspense to the reader. A wonderful example of a crime novel. Deep twisted and most of all hair raising with tension. A perfect tale of murder that gets under the readers skin.

I love a good book of crime suspense and this one knows what it wanted to say, descriptive in nature, dark and deep in explanation and a fantastic woven piece of murder. CeeCee is a perfect detective giving it her all but the brutal crimes are weighing down on her. You feel her problem, you understand her ordeal through the wonderful writing and also the amazing narrative of the story through CeeCee telling you what takes place. Its great when a book is filled with emotions, this book showcases that reality, anger, frustration, humor, disgust, lust, depression all run rampant in this book. Wonderful tense thick brutal fast action at times.

A deep dark investigation and cover-up mixed with human insanity. A gritty in your face detective story. Thick with action and flawless storyline. A haunting crime, a deep mystery that crawls under your skin and deep into your mind not letting you go. A great crime drama, awesome thriller that stands out. What is so great about this book is there is no filler or non-sense just to make the book longer, it's all the main character and the main ordeal of the case and the struggle and actions leading up to the conclusion of the story.

The drama in the story or the struggle and everyday approach of CeeCee binds this book together for her character is a truly flawless example of how to create a fictional person and make them seem real and make them grow upon the reader as you become her or part of the situation inside the story, that is how passionate and amazing this story is written.

CeeCee is a tough woman, strong, a fighting to the end woman, yet also a true BITCH at times. I loved the humor at times, the flirting and consequences of one's actions being displayed. The graphic telling of the crimes, from decapitation, to cannibalistic bitch burgers to the fights on the pages, it leaves nothing to imagine as the words play off the page into the readers mind giving them complete satisfaction in what is happening. I felt at times I was watching a movie or TV show of how well it's written so the reader can imagine it all.

CeeCee is a great character, a hard ass bitch at times, a woman that takes no crap and is sometimes stubborn and stupid as hell in her actions, yet her passion for the job shines making her a hard nosed fighter for justice that grows on you. It's beyond justification of how stupid CeeCee is at times, she say it's because she cares, but her actions are like a woman walking at 3am in central park and not expecting something to happen or even better yet a woman in a thong walking into a Hell's Angel biker bar and not expecting something to happen.

You as the reader want to give her a real smack across the face at times in how unrealistic she is being walking into danger and causing others the same fate while she thinks just about her self. This is a true haunting and amazing story of twisted backwoods hillbillies and there god awful actions. The best way to describe CeeCee is she is a cross between Cagney and Lacy and Ellen Ripley with a twist of Jane Tennison.

Car chases, gun fights, beatings, tied up helpless victims, and so much more bring this amazing little book to the for front of a perfect book for the reader.

Loved it, read it and did not want it to end. This is a new favorite of mine. This is probably the best crime fiction or detective fiction book I have ever read.
