11/22/63

Plot:

Jake Epping is a teacher. His friend Al a owner of a local bar divulges a secret: his storeroom is a portal to the past, a simple single day set in 1958. What Al wants out of Jake is for him to take over his mission to prevent the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963. Jake’s life changes and he becomes a new identity set in 1958, his name is now George Amberson. Soon Jake’s journey into the past leads him into the path of a man, a loner named Lee Harvey Oswald.

My Review and Thoughts:

This is your basic Stephen King when it comes to a lot of filler and tons of descriptions of things not important to the story. This is a good read for Stephen King fans. A book that is different in that it is a Stephen King book and it deals with history and also science fiction time travel to alter the past to try and better the future.

No matter how you look at King’s work he is a master at telling stories and this book is another prime example of his mind and imagination spilling upon the pages for his fan’s and new readers just now discovering him for the first time. If your new to his talent I would say start with his early work and then move up. This is in reality a very powerful book and massively entertaining as I say for the fan of Stephen King.

I  think like a lot of King’s books, it is way to long and drawn out and filled with a lot of hog wash that’s not necessary other than to make the book longer. With that negative said that does not mean it’s a bad book it’s just filled with to much. When you get to the
important moments they are masterfully told and written out in vivid ways and give to the reader the anticipation and excitement of a thrilling book of science fiction and history woven together  King style.

I would recommend this book to Stephen King fans and to fans of history such as John F. Kennedy’s murder enthusiast and also for fans who like science fiction dealing with time travel and altering events.

One other negative aspect of this book or other Stephen King books, is he is set in his older ways and in a lot of his novels older setting’s. Such as comments or situations that have happened during his life. Which is great experience in a book setting, but as time goes by and more and more modern kids and young adults start to pick up these books and open them and come across something written that they have no idea what it means because it’s from a time period long gone and no longer around the reader becomes confused and dumbfounded on what has just taken place in the story.

Explore it for what it is, a twisted tale of what if this happened and what if that did not take place, what would happen or what would become of us if we changed one of the most horrible important moment’s in history.

Some will like this book more then others and some won’t get it and some will say it’s just okay. I being a fan of Stephen King mainly his older works still enjoyed many parts of this book. It could have been chopped down a good 375 pages but other then that it’s a Stephen King book, enough said.
